Access Statement

Access Statement

This access statement does not contain personal opinions as to our suitability for those with access needs, but aims to describe the facilities and services that we offer all our guests/visitors, enabling potential guests with mobility issues to make a judgement about accessibility.

Introduction

Sleningford Watermill Caravan and Camping Park is located between the villages of North Stainley and West Tanfield. It can be reached by car or public transport. We have a range of grass and electric pitches for caravans and tents and a small self-contained studio flat, which sleeps 4. Whilst we aim to meet the needs of all our guests there are some features of the park which might make access difficult for people with limited mobility. We look forward to welcoming you and if you have any specific questions about accessibility or require any assistance please send us an email or give us a phone call. We would be happy to email pictures to you of specific areas, e.g. the steps to the flat; the shower facilities etc, and go through any questions you have to help you make a judgement about the park’s suitability for your visit.

Pre-Arrival

For full details and maps of how to reach us please see the Directions page on our website. We give detailed instructions for all probable directions. Alternatively, you can plan your journey by car or public transport using www.traveline.info. Simply enter your post code and ours, which is HG4 3HQ to get directions.

Arrival

  • For arrival by car, we are located down a small lane clearly signposted from the main road. There is ample space for parking in the courtyard area and there is ramp access to the door of Reception and the shop. There is a small lip threshold into Reception, space for wheelchair access and the door is a standard 66cm width.
  • The nearest bus stop is in the village of West Tanfield. There is shelter and seating. Buses (No. 159) run between Ripon and Richmond four times a day, Monday to Saturday. The bus stop is approximately 1 ½ miles away. The route to the bus stop is either along an uneven country footpath or on the main road, which whilst smoother, does not have a pavement. There is an alternative bus service called YorBus which is a bus service on demand, which covers Ripon, Masham, Bedale and the surrounding villages, Monday to Saturday (not including bank holidays). Rather than running to a fixed timetable, you can request to be picked up via their app or over the phone on 01609 780780.
  • Thirsk or Harrogate are our nearest railway stations, approximately 20 minutes’ and 40 minutes’ drive away respectively. The 36 bus which runs every 20 minutes (30 mins on a Sunday/ Public Holidays) connects Harrogate and Ripon.

Facilities

  • The park has a small, but well stocked shop. West Tanfield has a larger village store and the nearest bigger shops and petrol station are approximately 15 minutes’ drive away in Ripon.
  • Dogs are welcome on the park, up to a maximum of 3 per pitch. We regret that we are unable to accommodate guests’ pets in the Flatlet, with the exception of certified assistance dogs.
  • Access to the park is flat in all areas, although much is grass, which is kept short throughout the season. There is a concrete ramp over a small footbridge for access into the camping area and cars can pass through the vehicle entrance - this is well lit at night.
  • The courtyard toilet and shower facilities have an all-in-one, unisex shower/toilet room fitted with a wall seat suitable for guests with limited mobility. There is also an additional separate accessible toilet facility.
  • The laundry room and the information room on the courtyard are both accessible for guests with limited mobility. They both have wide access doors and no steps to access.
  • Access to the flat is via a set of metal steps, approximately 1 metre high, comprising 6 steps. Entry at the front door is flat, with a door width of 66cm. From here the accommodation is all level, with a small shower room, kitchen area, seating area and twin beds. Assistance can be given with luggage. Guests for the flat are required to bring their own bedding and towels.
  • Mobile phone reception is generally poor because of the rural nature of the park, but in an emergency the park phone can be used.
  • There is a defibrillator located in reception and a 24-hour emergency phone number (provided in the welcome information on arrival).
  • Local Wheelchair Accessible Taxi: Andrews taxis, Ripon, 01765 601792.
  • Nearest wheelchair/mobility scooter hire – Change Mobility Ltd 01423 500666. They also have engineers available to repair your own equipment if there is a problem.
