Walkers will love exploring the beautiful scenery that surrounds Sleningford Watermill. A network of peaceful footpaths and trails runs right from our doorstep, including the 50-mile circular Ripon Rowel Walk, which passes through the park itself.
In the Ripon and Masham area, there are countless rewarding walks — from the historic Sanctuary Cross Walk in Ripon to the scenic Mosaic Walk that begins on Kirkby Malzeard Moor. You’ll also find a great selection of OS maps and walking guides in our on-site shop to help plan your adventures.
If you’re looking to roam even further, the Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors are both within easy reach, offering endless opportunities to stretch your legs and soak up the views.
Cyclists Welcome 🚲
Cyclists are in for a treat here in North Yorkshire. In 2014, the 101st Tour de France pedalled right past the entrance to Sleningford Watermill, and it’s easy to see why — our local roads and trails are a dream for riders of all levels.
Whether you’re after a gentle spin or a hillier challenge, the county’s mix of rolling dales, quiet lanes, and scenic villages offers something for everyone. You can follow a 33-mile circular route taking in Knaresborough, Kirkby Malzeard, and Ripon, or head to Dalby Forest near Pickering, where you’ll find fantastic cycling trails for all abilities (and some lovely walks too).
Bring your bikes, your sense of adventure, and enjoy the freedom of exploring Yorkshire on two wheels.

With its gentle flow and stunning scenery, the River Ure is a favourite spot for canoeists — and Sleningford Watermill offers one of the best access points to enjoy it. Whether you’re an experienced paddler or just looking to try something new, it’s the perfect place to launch, explore, and soak up the peace of the Yorkshire countryside from the water.
Day canoeists are warmly welcome to paddle within Sleningford Watermill’s boundaries, as long as the
